Mollie King and AJ Pritchard left red-faced on Lorraine

They have been at the centre of romance rumours in recent weeks, but have firmly insisted they are just friends.

However Mollie King and AJ Pritchard were left red-faced once again on Wednesday, when probed about their relationship on Lorraine.

Things took an awkward turn on the ITV show when the blonde, 30, turned up late to the interview – causing presenters to question whether her separate arrival from AJ, 23, was proof the pair were not an item.

The former girl band star arrived at the studio almost an hour after her partner AJ, having overslept her alarm.

While Lorraine joked the dance pro had been ‘training her too hard’, correspondent Dan Wootton instead used the opportunity to probe the pair about their alleged romance.

He asked playfully: ‘Does this finally prove you two aren’t sleeping together?!’, causing Mollie and AJ to break out into awkward laughter.

Digging even deeper however, the show host then added: ‘I think you two would be a great couple! Don’t you think Lorraine?’

At which Mollie fired back playfully: ‘Are you trying to match-make us on television!’

Yet, Lorraine went on to state the pair were ‘just friends’, causing Mollie and AJ to nod in agreement.

The duo have been at the centre of romance rumours since Strictly Come Dancing began in September, although both have confirmed they are just friends.

Head judge Shirley Ballas first fanned the flames of potential passion between Mollie and AJ, remarking on their Viennese Waltz: ‘It was romantic with VERY believable chemistry!’

It was not just Shirley who hinted at romance – with presenter Claudia Winkleman also ‘flagging the chemistry’ after their performance.

Mollie’s former band mate Una Healy then added fuel to the fire by stating ‘you never know’ when quizzed about the potential romance, while AJ’s dad Adrian revealed the pair have ‘really bonded’ on the show.

He divulged to the Mirror: ‘Anybody would like Mollie, she is a very beautiful lady, she has a great personality – what is there not to like? They are spending more time with each other than a married couple would do.’

The pair were also spotted leaving the Pride of Britain awards together – but Mollie was quick to confirm she was very much single in an interview last week.

Speaking to Women’s Health, she revealed: ‘I don’t feel like I need somebody, but I obviously would love somebody.’

Before adding: ‘I love being in love, I literally love being in love. I’m so romantic. I’m such a girly girl.’

Meanwhile Mollie and AJ have been throwing themselves into training for the Charleston, having finally avoided the dance-off on Saturday night after two weeks in the bottom two.

Discussing her gratitude, Mollie said: ‘I can’t believe we’ve made it to Blackpool. It’s been such an adventure, so thanks to everyone who is voting for us as we’re having the time of our lives.’

The pair had been part of the controversial dance-off two weeks ago, which saw hot favourite Aston Merrygold and partner Janette Manrara voted out of the show.

While she admitted she felt very lucky to still be on the show, the blonde did confess it was ‘terrible’ that Aston was no longer on the show – as he could have reached the final.

She said: ‘I’ve known Aston for nearly 10 years now. When he was called up it was a huge shock as no one thought he should be there.

‘Then to be up against him was just awful. It was a lose-lose situation really. It’s terrible he’s not there, as he was one of the best dancers on the show.’
