The bisexual murderer of Sydney businessman Morgan Huxley is appealing the 40-year sentence he was handed over the brutal killing.
Daniel Jack Kelsall, now 24, was convicted over the brutal murder in 2015 and called a ‘worthless psychopath’ over the ‘entirely senseless and needless’ killing.
Kelsall followed Mr Huxley, 31, out of a nightclub before brutally stabbing him more than 20 times and later sexually assaulting him in his apartment in September 2013.
But on Monday his lawyer Braddon Hughes SC argued to the New South Wales Court of Appeal that the 30-year minimum jail term imposed was ‘manifestly excessive’.

In sentencing, Justice Robert Allan Hulme described the case as being ‘chilling’ and claiming that Kelsall must have been of a very disturbed mind.
‘Whether the offender killed for the thrill of it … or whether it was as a result of fantasy or obsession I am unable to say. It was entirely senseless and needless,’ Justice Hulme said.
‘Why he did it, only Kelsall knows.’
It took a jury just under three hours to find Kelsall guilty of indecently assaulting and murdering Mr Huxley at his Neutral Bay home on September 8, 2013.
Kelsall sat expressionless during the trial as each member of Huxley’s family spoke to the NSW Supreme Court about the devastation his crime had brought.
