Mugshot of suspect allowed to pose in a wig and glasses

A domestic abuse suspect’s smirking mugshot has sparked outrage after he was allowed to don a wig and glasses for a ‘savage’ jailbird picture.

Brandon Trice Harmon, of Ringwood, Oklahoma, had a warrant for his arrest issued for domestic assault and battery in the presence of a minor last month.

The 34-year-old said decided to turn himself in the following day, but not before he donned a blonde wig and over-sized glasses to create a grinning ‘epic’ mugshot.

He insists he did not wear the ridiculous outfit ‘to poke fun at anything’.

But the photo, which was published in this month’s issue of Jailbirds, which publishes mugshots, has sparked fury among the victim’s family who said it was a ‘slap in the face’

They accused Major County cops of allowing Harmon to take the mugshot because he was a friend of Sheriff Steve Randolph.

Both Randolph and Harmon are members of the volunteer Ringwood Fire Department.

‘Nobody else gets that opportunity,’ Kathy Lambert, the victim’s mother, said. ‘It’s just a slap in the face to all the women who are abused daily. It’s a sad crime that happens daily, it was just a disgrace.

‘I feel Steve abused his power, and Brandon abused their friendship. It makes me ill.’

Randolph would not comment to local media about the photo.

Harmon claims his friend was not involved with the mugshot but he had ‘arrived at the facility in the wig and glasses not to poke fun at anything other than I’m going to have an epic and savage, according to social media, ‘Jailbird’ pic,’ Harmon told the Edmonton Sun.

‘The dispatcher working at the time had no clue who I was, she simply did her job, booked me and moved on with her day.’

Meanwhile Major County officers have been called out for hypocrisy after they recently posed for a team photo in support of Domestic Abuse Awareness Month.

‘It was like they made a mockery of the Domestic Abuse Awareness Month,’ Lambert, told the Enid News & Eagle.

‘They just took pictures of the deputies wearing ‘We support domestic violence month’ shirts, but yet they let this happen.’

There is no set legislature for taking mugshots in Oklahoma and the process can vary between departments.

But mugshots are supposed to be able to be shared with other police departments if someone is arrested elsewhere to enter them into the database. Harmon’s wig and glasses all but obscured his face making the mugshot worthless.

The supect is accused of grasping his spouse, forcing her down on a bed and holding her down in front of their child.

He denies the domestic abuse charge which he claims stems from divorce.

Harmon’s warrant was issued September 6 and he was arraigned September 27. He is due back in court next month for a bond appearance.
