Multiple injures in shooting at a Walmart: Cops declare ‘mass-casualty event’ at busy grocery store

  • Reported shooting took place at Walmart in Tumwater, Washington state
  • Emergency calls were made to dispatcher at around 5pm local time 
  • Preliminary reports indicate that at least two people were shot
  • Gunman is also said to have fired at least 10 bullets, according to witnesses 

Law enforcement officials are rushing to the scene of a reported shooting at a Walmart store in Washington state, where at least two people were shot.

The reported shooting took place in Tumwater at around 5pm local time, according to the Tacoma News Tribune.

Tumwater, which is located in Thurston County, lies about 60 miles south of Seattle. 

So far, there are unconfirmed reports of more than one casualty.

Emergency dispatchers said that so far there are two people who were confirmed shot, KIRO-TV reported. 

Witnesses also reported hearing at least 10 gunshots.

Darren Gossler, an eyewitness to the shooting, tweeted: ‘I was in the dairy section.

‘Heard about 5 or 6 pops. Ran out a side emergency exit and attempted to run to my car in the parking lot but heard 4 more pops in the lot. 

‘Caught a quick glimpse of a male with what appeared to be a handgun. 

‘Ducked under some cars and ran to Costco.’

Gossler said he gave a statement to police.
