RB Leipzig have announced that Naby Keita will remain at the German club until June 2018, ruling out the possibility of moving forward the midfielder’s transfer to Liverpool early.

Liverpool had been in talks with RB Leipzig over the early transfer of Keita and German media reports suggested Keita had played his last game for Leipzig against Schalke on Saturday as the clubs closed in on an improved fee of £79million.

However, the German club has announced on Sunday that the Guinean will not be moving to Merseyside prematurely.

‘Naby Keita will remain an RB Leipzig player until 30th June 2018,’ read a post on the club’s Twitter account.

‘We wish to put the speculation about a January move to Liverpool to bed.’

Liverpool had already agreed a fee of £66.8million for Keita should Leipzig qualify for the Champions League but Leipzig wanted extra compensation to release him from his contract early.
