Neymar’s starring PSG role no surprise for Dani Alves

For £200million it really should not be a surprise when a player performs well and Dani Alves is certainly not shocked to see Neymar delivering the good as Paris Saint-Germain.

On Wednesday night against Celtic, Neymar played a hand in three of PSG’s seven goals at Parc des Princes, creating two and scoring one. It was exactly the kind of performance he was brought to the club to produce.

There will be tougher tests than the Scottish champions, and indeed much of Ligue 1, but with progression to the knockout round secured with a 100 per cent record there can be no doubt that Neymar is delivering the goods.

Alves, a former team-mate at Barcelona, who also joined PSG in the summer expects nothing less of his countryman.

‘He is here for that. It is not a surprise for me,’ Alves told reporters of Neymar’s display. ‘He came here to make the difference, and people can buy tickets and see the best, not just from him but the whole team.

‘Every day, we get ready to give our best for the supporters that come to watch PSG.

‘As I said, it is not a surprise because [Neymar] did it like that his whole career, and it is not going to be different here.’

In an otherwise routine night for PSG, Celtic did take the lead at Parc des Princes when Moussa Dembele caught out a sleepy Alves to finish off a smart short corner routine.

‘I gave them the first goal. I gave them a corner. I was blocked, badly, but at the end I could apologise with a goal,’ Alves added.

‘Something like that just comes once or twice during the season, goals like that.’
