She picked up her Outstanding Lead Actress gong for her role in HBO’s Big Little Lies at Sunday’s Emmy Awards.
And on Tuesday, Nicole Kidman revealed how much the playing the character of a woman abused by her husband had affected her.
‘It affected me more than anything I’ve ever done,’ the 50-year-old told TheFix.

The actress went on to say it penetrated her psyche in ‘really strange ways’.
‘Doing it for five months… it penetrated my psyche in really strange ways,’ Nicole added.
‘That’s what we do as actors. We’re meant to do things that disturb us sometimes.’

Previously, Nicole told W magazine, the role had left her ‘broken and crying.’
‘I felt very exposed and vulnerable and deeply humiliated at times,’ she said.
‘I was just lying there, sort of broken and crying,’ she explained. ‘I remember at one point [director] Jean-Marc coming over and just sort of placing a towel over me because I was just lying there in half-torn underwear and just basically on the ground with nothing on and I was just, like [gasps].’

And at the Emmys, Nicole used her acceptance speech to bring more awareness to the ‘insidious disease’ of domestic violence.
Taking the stage, Nicole said: ‘Sometimes when you’re acting, you get a chance to bring a bigger message. We shone a light on domestic abuse.’
‘It is a complicated, insidious disease, and it exists far more than we allow ourselves to know,’ she continued.
She continued: ‘It is filled with shame and secrecy, and by you acknowledging me with this award, it shines a light on it even more. So thank you, thank you, thank you.’

Big Little Lies took home a total of five Emmys on Sunday night, including outstanding limited series.
It had already won three awards at the Creative Arts Awards a week ago.
