Nine News reporter wakes up unsuspecting CEO after sleep out

A CEO was surprised to be woken up live on air this morning after he spent the night sleeping ‘rough’ to raise money for homelessness.

The annual Vinnies CEO sleep out was held overnight, and the man, named Peter, was the last one sleeping.

With a cruise ship set to arrive at White Bay Cruise terminal in Sydney, Sunrise reporter Natalia Cooper was given the task of waking the last remaining sleeper up.

The CEO, named Peter, was the last one asleep at White Bay Cruise Terminal this morning for the CEO sleep out

‘He has managed to sleep through everything this morning, I feel a bit bad doing this,’ she told the camera.

She then crouched down and pushed the cardboard he was using for warmth off him and pulled his sleeping bag down from his face.

‘Good Morning, Sir. Good Morning!’ she said.

‘It’s time to wake up.’

The man blinked, adjusting to waking up live on camera as Cooper laughed and handed the microphone over to him, asking how he managed to sleep through all the action.

‘I don’t know, I guess I was…stay awake long enough and then I get too tired and then I just pass out,’ the CEO said, looking around and realising he was the last CEO left sleeping on the concrete.

The man kept smiling as the camera panned back to Cooper who jokingly said, ‘You wouldn’t want to see me when I first wake up in the morning, I’d be a lot grumpier than that.’

The CEO sleep out sees business and community leaders as well as government officials sleep outside in order to gain an understanding of the experience of homelessness firsthand, and to raise money.
