NTAs: Ruth Langsford stuns in sultry scarlet gown

She is best known for presenting alongside her husband Eamonn Holmes.

But forced to go it alone on Wednesday night, Ruth Langsford, 57, cut a solo figure on the red carpet for the 2018 National Television Awards, held at London’s O2 arena, as her beau was forced to stay at home, after being struck down by illness.

Despite not having her beau by her side, Ruth dazzled at the annual calendar highlight, as she slipped into a sultry, scarlet red floor-length gown.

Dressed to impress, Ruth looked just delightful in the Kevan Jon design that came complete with a bardot neckline, that sat off the shoulder and teased a look at her bare decolletage.

Her number made sure to highlight the former Strictly Come Dancing star’s age-defying physique, as it nipped in at the waist before billowing out around her legs and falling into a stylish train that trailed behind her.

Glamorous Ruth paired her gown with perfectly styled locks and a flawless make-up look that included a striking red lip to match her outfit choice for the evening.

Sporting a subtle smokey-eye, Ruth finished off her ensemble with jewelled earrings and a gold metallic box clutch that she toted in one hand.

Beaming from ear-to-ear, Ruth appeared in high spirits as she walked the red carpet solo, before no doubt joining her Loose Women co-stars inside for the star-studded ceremony.

Her husband of eight years Eamonn, meanwhile, has been forced to stay at home instead of accompanying his love, after falling ill.

The presenter shared an Instagram of himself dressed in his loungewear and a robe alongside his glamorous wife Ruth, as he lamented being unwell. He penned alongside his post: ‘One of us is off to The #NTA Showbiz Ceremony and the other is staying at home poorly, uncared for abandoned, coughing endlessly . Can u guess which of us is doing what?’

Ruth, meanwhile, insisted she was ‘missing’ having her husband with her, as she shared a similar post to her own Instagram page – a short video of her cuddling up to a poorly Eamonn. She said: ‘Flying solo at the @officialntas tonight…. @eamonnholmes is too poorly to go. Missing him already ❤️.’

ITV will broadcast this year’s National Television Awards, fronted by returning host Dermot O’Leary, live from London’s O2 Arena at 7.30pm.

Former Made In Chelsea star Georgia Toffolo replaces Scarlett Moffatt as backstage host for 2018, after stealing her crown as queen of the jungle on I’m A Celebrity 2017.

The presenting gig helped launch Scarlett’s TV career in 2017, as she went onto front the revamped Streetmate dating show, as well as landing a gig on Saturday Night Takeaway.

Meanwhile, Love Island stars Kem Cetinay and Chris Hughes will be hosting the glittering red carpet.

TV double act Ant & Dec are this year contending for a record-breaking 17th National Television Award in a row in the Presenting category.

They will face strong competition from presenting pals Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield to be voted the nation’s favourite again.

Not only that, but This Morning and Dancing On Ice’s Holly and Phil will have to face off against each other, as individuals and not a double act.

Ant & Dec will also be able to pick up a gong in the Challenge Show category, with their reality show I’m A Celebrity.

Finally, they have a two more chances at victory in with an inaugural entertainment award that acknowledges their game show Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, and Britain’s Got Talent recognised in the Talent Show category.

Similarly, as a duo, Holly and Phil may be able to claw back some awards glory by picking up the Daytime gong for This Morning.

Currently, The Drama gong looks too close to call with infidelity potboiler Doctor Foster and date rape drama Liar up against medical stalwarts Call The Midwife and Casualty.

Popular fantasy series Game Of Thrones will also be hoping to take the prize home to Westeros.

It is a clash of the acting titans for Drama Performance, with Hollywood actor Tom Hardy from Taboo and Broadchurch’s leading man David Tennant tackling actresses Sheridan Smith, Jenna Coleman and Suranne Jones.

The Great British Bake Off will be hoping to take home the Challenge Show trophy after its move from the BBC to Channel 4, but faces tough competition from I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here, MasterChef and last year’s breakout show Love Island.

The ITV2 dating series celebrated a ratings high, with 2.3million viewers tuning in to watch the show’s live final, which saw stars Kem and his ex-girlfriend Amber Davies crowned the winners.

The new Crime Drama category recognises a year when primetime mysteries became the nation’s favourite TV genre. The shortlist pits Line Of Duty against Broadchurch, Little Boy Blue and Sherlock.

Simon Cowell, meanwhile, found himself with two nods in the Talent Show category, with both Britain’s Got Talent and The X Factor nominated for the prize. They will battle it out against Strictly Come Dancing and The Voice UK – following its channel move to ITV from the BBC.

Other categories include Serial Drama, comprised of the nation’s favourite soaps EastEnders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks, Comedy and Newcomer.

This year the NTAs are paying tribute to the late Sir Bruce Forsyth by naming a major prize after him; the Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award.

The showbiz veteran sadly passed away in August last year, aged 89, following a long illness and a battle with bronchial pneumonia. Sir Bruce is loved around the country for his 75-year TV career presenting shows including The Generation Game, Play Your Cards Right and Strictly.

His legacy was honoured when Strictly Come Dancing returned to screens in September, with the show’s professional dancers performing a routine in tribute, before Bruce’s best moments from his time on the series were played.

Ant & Dec’s Saturday Night Takeaway, The Graham Norton Show, Celebrity Juice and All Round To Mrs Brown’s have the honour of competing for the inaugural Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award.
