Obama makes subtle dig at Trump about his tweeting

Former President Barack Obama made a subtle dig at President Donald Trump for his overuse of Twitter.

In a conversation with journalist Karan Thapar at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit in New Delhi, India, on Friday, Obama said that he saw people too often ‘getting in trouble’ after sending out a tweet.

‘Don’t say the first thing that pops into your head, just have a little bit of an edit function, that’s wise for life generally,’ he said.

‘Think before you speak, think before you tweet, same principle.’

Obama also took the opportunity to boast that he has more followers than those who Twitter more frequently.

‘I think it’s important to be mindful about both the power of these tools and also its limits and to understand it can be used for both good or for ill

‘And look, I’ve got 100 million Twitter followers. I actually have more than other people who use it more often.’

For the record, Obama has 97.5 million Twitter followers and Trump has 44 million.

Obama was asked who reflected the real America: Donald Duck or Donald Trump?

The 56-year-old didn’t answer directly. He said Americans could often be kind and noble, and at other times cruel and shortsighted.

‘It is just this cacophony of life. And it throws up all kinds of variety,’ he said. ‘And there are political trends in America that I don’t agree with or abide by, but I recognize as part of a running thread in American life.’

According to a report from the India-based Central Tibetan Administration, which is essentially a government in exile, the former US president and the 82-year-old Tibetan spiritual leader had a 45-minute meeting.

‘I think we are really two old trusted friend[s]. I mentioned to him that now time has come for us to promote the sense of oneness among seven billion human beings. It is sad to see there are so much differences among people,’ the Dalai Lama said, according to the report.

The meeting was the sixth between the two Nobel Peace Prize laureates, and the first since Obama left office in January, reported CNN.

The former president concluded a five-day world tour on Saturday that included stops in France, China and India.
