Obama’s planning to return to politics behind-the-scenes

Former President Barack Obama is planning a return to the political scene this fall, but it will be behind the scenes rather than on center stage.

A Democratic aide said Obama will begin a ‘delicate dance’ back into politics after spending the last few months enjoying vacations with his family.

Advisers said Obama will play an ‘active role’ to help the Democrats rebuild, but in areas like fundraising and hitting the campaign trail for fellow party members.

Obama has been fundraising for the Democratic National Committee as well as the National Democratic Redistricting Committee since leaving the White House.

He also met with DNC Chairman Tom Perez in July and has given lawmakers advice on a number of issues, according to The Hill.

Obama has so far only revealed he will campaign for Ralph Northam, who is running for governor in Virginia, this fall.

An adviser told the site that ‘it remains to be seen’ who else Obama will campaign for, and how many appearances he will make.

But aides said Obama will be making a concerted effort to make sure that he does not once again become the face of the Democratic party.

They said the former president doesn’t want to become a ‘foil’ to President Trump, who continues to criticize him in the press since taking over the Oval Office.

Keeping a low-profile will also allow Obama to give room to emerging Democratic leaders who may be planning to run for office in 2020, strategists predicted.

Obama has only recently gotten into the political fray when it came to standing up for the Affordable Health Care Act when it was in danger of being repealed by the Republican-majority Congress.

Since leaving office Obama has enjoyed the likes of kitesurfing with Richard Branson in the British Virgin Islands and traversing the French Polynesian with Oprah.

He was most recently spotted enjoying his annual family vacation on Martha’s Vineyard.

The former first family spent seven of their eight summers while Obama was in office on the island and were Vineyard regulars long before that.

Their island visits tend to be low-key. They’re typically seen riding bicycles, venturing into town for ice cream or visiting longtime friends. The former president is also known to play golf often.
