Ohio man bit off a state trooper’s ear on the highway

An Ohio man has been charged with felonious assault after he allegedly bit off part of a state trooper’s ear on Thursday morning.

Dashcam footage captured the moment Cornelius Carey Jr, 44, attacked Trooper Lance Deshuk in Lorain County.

A woman called the sheriff’s office at around 6.45am on Thursday saying that Carey appeared drunk walking on a highway and was in danger of being struck by a car.

The dashcam video shows Deshuk pulling over and confronting Carey. 

‘Are you alright? Are you okay?’ he can be heard asking.

Deshuk then asks Carey to show him some ID, when Carey becomes combative.

The video shows Carey appearing to strike the trooper in the face.

At this point the scuffle moves out of view of the camera, but a woman can be heard yelling: ‘Get off of that officer!’

A woman called the sheriff’s office during the confrontation and said she saw Carey and Deshuk wrestling in the middle of the road.

A third caller said that Carey had Deshuk in a chokehold, but Deshuk was able to regain control and handcuff Carey.

Deshuk was hospitalized and awaiting surgery as of Thursday afternoon

Prosecutors have requested that Carey undergo tests for communicable diseases, according to Cleveland.com.

He is scheduled for a preliminary hearing at 2pm on January 22.
