Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pumped up as Manchester United stars train

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer pumped up during Manchester United training as he looks to become the first caretaker manager since Roberto Di Matteo to win the Champions League

  • Roberto Di Matteo won the Champions League as caretaker in 2011-12 season
  • Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping to repeat the feat with Manchester United
  • United’s stars trained at Carrington prior to Paris Saint-Germain tie on Monday

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer oversaw Manchester United training on Monday morning ahead of their clash against Paris Saint-Germain.

The Norwegian will be hoping to become the first caretaker manager of a club to win the Champions League this season since Roberto Di Matteo managed the feat with Chelsea in 2012.

United’s players will be hoping to do better in the competition this season, having been knocked out by Sevilla at the last-16 stage last campaign.

The Old Trafford side will be looking to carry the momentum of their 3-0 win against Fulham into the game at home on Tuesday evening.

Antonio Valencia and Matteo Darmian were the only absentees from Manchester United’s final training session.

Solskjaer will be able to pick from a virtually fully-fit squad against the French champions after reporting no fresh injuries from United’s win at Fulham over the weekend.

United’s players were in good spirits ahead of the last 16 clash as they face PSG at home in the first leg before travelling to France for the return tie at Parc des Princes in three weeks’ time.

Paul Pogba could be seen at Carrington for the training session ahead of the PSG match

The feel good factor that Solskjaer has brought to the club since returning to United in December was in evidence as the players enjoyed the opening rondo session before being put through their paces by his coaching staff.

It was in stark contrast to the sombre mood under Jose Mourinho which turned toxic towards the end of his two-and-a-half-year reign, culminating in him stripping Paul Pogba of the vice-captaincy and admonishing the Frenchman in front of the watching cameras at training in September.

Pogba has been transformed under Solskjaer, claiming eight goals and five assists since he took over, and could be seen on Monday trying to hit his assistant Mark Dempsey with a shot as he enjoyed the session.

Marcos Rojo, who has not played since suffering a shin injury in United’s final group game in Valencia in December, was also at training although he is not expected to be available to face PSG.
