Pair nabbed with weed crop at Stony Chute

Two men who allegedly tried to run a police car off a road near the northern NSW hippie town of Nimbin have been charged after authorities uncovered a nearby cannabis crop.

After receiving a tip-off about the cannabis crop, Nimbin police were travelling along Stony Chute Road on Sunday afternoon when a ute heading towards them allegedly tried to run their vehicle off the road.

Police eventually stopped the ute and arrested the driver and his passenger, both aged 24.

A cannabis crop was located nearby with 50 mature plants seized.

The pair is facing charges including cultivating a prohibited plant and using a weapon to avoid apprehension.

The men were granted bail to appear at Lismore Local Court in March.
