  • Paraglider was caught on camera being blown off his feet by gust of strong wind
  • The man was then slammed into the ground with such force that his shoe flew off
  • He was uninjured despite the hard landing and has since found the missing Croc

A paraglider has escaped unhurt despite being slammed into the ground after being whipped into the air in strong winds.

The daredevil was caught on camera struggling to keep his footage on Mount Maunganui, on New Zealand’s North Island.

A powerful gust of wind caught the man’s parachute and swept him into the air before slamming him into the ground again.

Known as Draggonslayer on Instagram, the paragliding enthusiast hit the side of the mountain so hard one of his shoes flew off.

‘Got so barrelled today with the boys – if anyone finds the Croc I lost, hit me up,’ he wrote in the caption to the video.

Onlookers could be heard saying ‘Oh s***’ as he smashed face-first into the earth, throwing up a cloud of dust.

The glider, who was wearing a helmet, emerged unscathed from the collision and was even able to recover his lost Croc, Stuff reported.

Dominique Le Sellin, Secretary of the Bay of Plenty Gliding and Paragliding Club, said the mountain is usually a safe place to paraglide.

‘It could have been a rotor [turbulent air] that pulled him up,’ she said, noting he was using speed glider.

She said the number of people paragliding on the mountain has increased from 50 to 80 in recent years and the site is ‘generally quite safe’.
