‘Yeah right! Tell that to this takeaway store in Croydon where a burqa wearing person, allegedly held the shop up with a knife.

‘When will politicians take my warnings on full face coverings seriously?’

Ms Hanson told Daily Mail Australia ‘The security risks associated with full-face coverings, like the burqa, are obvious to me and many Australians. Today’s incident makes this very clear.’

‘While many people agreed with me that the burqa is oppressive and has no place in western society, many laughed off my security concerns. It’s safe to say they are not laughing now.’

Police say a person wearing a burqa allegedly robbed a Subway restaurant in Croydon, in Melbourne’s eastern suburbs, at 5:30pm on Saturday.

The person allegedly entered the eatery waving a knife and threatened workers.

Subway employees handed over cash and the alleged offender – wearing an Islamic full-face covering and a beige gown – fled the scene.

No one was injured during the alleged armed robbery.

Karen, whose granddaughter works at the eatery, says police viewed CCTV footage on Sunday morning and were shocked to see the burqa-clad suspect.

‘A woman came in in a full burqa, brandished a knife, asked for the money,’ she told 3AW.

‘She asked to see the safe, he [a male Subway employee] said they didn’t have a safe, and she proceeded to take the money and put it into a Coles bag.’

Karen said the woman then got into a car waiting on the main road outside.

Police have charged 38-year-old Frankston man with armed robbery and associated offences, and a 21-year-old woman from Narre Warren is assisting with inquiries.

The man will face Melbourne Magistrates Court on Friday.

Police have also charged them with three other armed robberies at Morwell and Traralgon on Monday.

The incident comes amid fierce debate about whether the burqa should be banned in parliament after Pauline Hanson entered the Senate wearing the Muslim garment.
