It’s a symbol of pride and vanity in some cultures. And this peacock certainly lived up to its reputation. 

Breathtaking video footage from Beacon Hill Park in British Columbia shows the stunning creature fanning its feathers in spectacular fashion for all the world to see.

The mating ritual was captured on camera by David Freiheit, who had waiting one hour waiting for the perfect shot.

Proud as a peacock: At the beginning of the clip, the bird can be heard making a piercing call

At the beginning of the clip, the bird makes a piercing call and lifts up its colourful plumage. 

The feathers then quiver slightly, before spreading out to full advantage in front of awestruck spectators. 

Freiheit can barely believe his luck, as he is heard saying: ‘Wow, I just captured that. And anyone who didn’t capture that was 10 seconds too late. Wow! That was amazing.’

Peafowl are divided into two species and are indigenous to southeast Asia.

The blue peacock lives in mostly India and Sri Lanka while the green peacock is found in Indonesia and Myanmar.
