Pennsylvania sheriff’s deputy’s two sons die in house fire

The two young sons of a Pennsylvania sheriff’s deputy died in an early morning house fire on Wednesday. 

A fire broke out at a home on the 900 block of Summit Ave in Schwenksville, Pennsylvania around 5:30am. 

Firefighters raced to the scene and found a male, female and adolescent girl outside the home.

After the fire was put out, the firefighters found the remains of the brothers on the second floor of the home

Firefighters were able to control the blaze relatively quickly, but once they put out the fire they found the remains of two young boys on the second floor. 

The victims have been identified as  11-year-old Bryan Lukens Jr and his younger brother Parker, age six. 

The boy’s father, Montgomery County Sheriff’s Deputy Bryan Lukens, mom Tracy, and sister Soffia, age 9, were the three firefighters found outside the home. 

The parents and their daughter were rushed to the hospital. Dep. Lukens had more serious injuries so he was taken to the burn unit at Lehigh Valley Hospital. His wife and daughter were taken to Pottstown Hospital where they were treated and have since been released. The mother and daughter later went to Lehigh Valley Hospital to be by Dep. Lukens’ side. He was expected to be released from the hospital Wednesday afternoon.

'Our office is devastated to learn about this tragedy,' Montgomery County Sheriff Sean P. Kilkenny said. 'Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lukens family as they grieve their losses.'

Fire marshals are working to determine the cause of the fire. 

Montgomery County Sheriff Sean P. Kilkenny issued a statement regarding the tragic house fire. 

‘Our office is devastated to learn about this tragedy,’ Kilkenny said. ‘Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lukens family as they grieve their losses.’

Lukens joined the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office in May of 2014. He previously served in the U.S. Marine Corps as a sergeant infantry team leader in Iraq. He received several medals and awards during his tours of duty. 

He also has an associate’s degree in fine arts from the Montgomery County Community College. 

A family friend set up a Go Fund Me campaign for the family that raised more than $52,000 of a $200,000 goal in the hours after the fire.
