Furious drivers have slammed a petrol station amid claims it had been selling fuel containing water.

The Caltex in Kearneys Spring, south Queensland, came under fire online from irate motorists who have been forced to send their vehicles in for repairs after filling up.

One customer took to Facebook, claiming their car broke down just moments after buying petrol from the station.

‘Just a warning for anyone who purchases fuel from Caltex Toowoomba opposite Kmart in Kearneys Spring,’ they posted to a public group this week.

‘I broke down last Thursday about two minutes after fueling up.’

The customer said the car was taken to a mechanic who discovered the fuel contained water.

Other people have also spoken of issues after filling up at the station, with one saying their mother’s car also broke down after it was filled with petrol bought there.

‘You weren’t the only one. My mum filled up last Friday and barely made it to Drayton road before she broke down,’ they said. ‘She filled up on E10.’

The mother had to have the car towed to be fixed.

The driver who made the original post said she had contacted the petrol station and ‘said they would do an ‘investigation’ and in the meantime suggest I hire a car’.

A Caltex spokesman said: ‘Caltex is working with four customers who have had issues after filling up with E10 at our Kearneys Spring store over the weekend.

‘We apologise to them, are refunding their purchases and will cover the costs of getting their vehicles back on the road.

‘Any presence of water in E10 fuel is problematic which is why we test it daily at all our stores. The presence of water is unusual and the E10 pumps at our Kearneys Spring site were shut down immediately after water was detected on Monday.

‘Our technicians are onsite to undertake further testing and the pumps will reopen once the issue has been rectified.’
