The devastating news of Sam Burgess’ split from wife Phoebe made headlines on Thursday, leaving fans wondering where it all went wrong.

And in another heartbreaking twist, a resurfaced interview has revealed the life-changing sacrifices Phoebe made to keep their romance afloat.

Back in 2015, the glamorous WAG uprooted her life in Australia to follow Sam to England, where he played for the Bath rugby union team.

Speaking to Bath Weekend at the time, Phoebe said it was a no-brainer leaving her family and career behind to support her husband.

‘I didn’t want to be without him. His job is here, and I’d like to think he would be crying himself to sleep without me too! We’re a little team, it just works,’ she said.

However, she admitted that dating someone in the spotlight wasn’t easy.

‘On one side it’s so wonderful because you get to see the world and take part in all the joy of someone excelling at what they’re passionate about,’ she explained.

‘But on the flip side, the reality is these girls [WAGs] sacrifice a lot to keep up with the demands and the ups and downs of the boys’ jobs.’

The former couple met at an Avicii concert in Sydney in early 2014, but decided to keep their romance a secret for the first eight months.

They finally went public at the prestigious Dally M Awards in September that year, with Phoebe telling Daily Mail Australia at the time: ‘It’s going really well, he’s not annoying me too much yet!’

They married in December 2015 and have since welcomed two children: two-year-old daughter Poppy and newborn son William.

On Thursday, it was reported that Sam and Phoebe had split just weeks after the birth of their second child.

The break-up came three months after Sam was cleared of any wrongdoing in an NRL ‘sexting’ scandal in September 2018.
