Photos show moment a rhino was removed from Bruce the dog

Dogs are known to eat some peculiar things, but one pooch gave his carers quite the shock when a toy rhino had to be surgically removed from his stomach.

A simple training session quickly ended with Bruce the rescue pup being taken into emergency surgery to ‘birth’ the foreign object.

Shared to Beagle Rescue Victoria Facebook group on Tuesday, the Bloodhound cross Labrador ‘gulped down’ the entire rhino toy which was remarkably removed in one piece.

Incredible surgery photos show the moment the yellow rhino with a huge horn was removed by vets.

An x-ray also shows how far the rhino was ingested in the curious dog’s stomach.

‘Bruce had a tough week last week,’ the group wrote online.

‘He got so excited about a toy that he thought maybe it was food, so he gulped down the whole thing.

‘Lucky for him it was caught quickly and the vets did a great job at removing it and stitching him back up.’

While Bruce did not choke on the rhino toy, Beagle Rescue Victoria warned dog owners to supervise their four legged friends with toys.

Described as a ‘loving goofball’ who is ‘easy to love’, the group said the two-and-a-half-year-old hound is on the road to recovery, however he is looking for a new home to start a new life.

‘He’s had his whole life turned upside-down when his old owners fell on hard times,’ the Beagle Rescue group shared.

‘He’s lost his human family and is looking for a new one.

‘If Bruce was human, he’d be the guy you’d sit down and have a few beers and a laugh with!’
