An aunt and her six-month-old niece have been killed in a horrific car crash in north Wales, which has left the baby’s mother fighting for her life. 

Police have named the victims as Anna Williams, 22, and six-month-old Millie Wyn Ginniver were travelling in a Ford Fiesta when it was in a collision with a lorry on the A487 in Gellilydan, Gwynedd, shortly before 11.20am on Thursday.

The driver of the Fiesta, understood to be Millie’s mother and the sister of Ms Williams, remains in hospital in Stoke where her condition is described as critical.

Ms Williams, from the Penrhyndeudraeth area, who was the front seat passenger in the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, while Millie, from the Blaenau Ffestiniog area, died later after being airlifted to Alder Hey Hospital in Liverpool.

Ms Williams had studied fine art at Liverpool John Moores University and previously attended Coleg Menai in Bangor. 

In a statement, North Wales Police said: ‘Specialist officers are currently working to support the families who have requested that their privacy is respected at this difficult time.

‘Police continue to appeal for witnesses and anybody with information is asked to contact officers at the Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting reference number W003114.’
