  • He was found trapped between a wall and the car and died a short time later
  • It’s thought the handbrake may have been left off causing the car to roll

The teenager crushed to death by his car after trying to move it from his driveway has been named as Lachlan Ridley.

The 18-year-old was trying to jump-start his vehicle which had an ignition problem with to move it out of the way of his mother’s car in Hornsby Heights, north Sydney.  

Emergency services were called to Paul Close in around 8pm on Friday but Mr Ridley died at the scene.

The vehicle – a ute displaying green P-plates – had picked up speed as it ran downhill, pinning the 18-year-old up against a wall.

Officers found the man trapped between a wall and the car when they arrived, a police spokesperson said. 

Terrified family and friends watched on as emergency crews and paramedics raced to free him. 

Although the man was freed, he died at the scene a short time later despite the efforts of paramedics.

Officers from Kuring-Gai Police Area Command are investigating the crash and a brief will be prepared for the Coroner.
