Pink ASOS dress is compared to a vagina

These days there are few fashion boundaries that haven’t been pushed, with plunging necklines and upper thigh-skimming hem-lines unlikely to raise eyebrows among shoppers.

But it seems taking inspiration from intimate areas is a step too far for some, as one online retailer has learned.

An ‘origami bow midi’ dress unveiled by ASOS has caused a stir on social media,  after its flower embellishment drew comparisons to a vagina.

The elaborately folded pink rose design on the £55 dress was likened to a woman’s genitalia by some eagle-eyed fashion fans.

It was shared by Instagram page ASBOS_SOS, which pokes fun at the store’s more outré designs.

An image of the dress was shared with the caption: ‘To celebrate the rebirth of Jesus Christ as a Smarties Easter egg here is a dress that looks like a vagina.’

The post received over 200 likes, with many social media users commenting to say they could see the similarity.

One commented: ‘Vagina rose strikes again.’

‘Haha everyone loves a labia dress,’ another user joked.

A third wrote: ‘Labia on your dress…’

The pink dress features what ASOS describes as a ‘contrast fold bow to waist’ – the addition that was li.

The quirky dress costs £55 and the store claims it’s for formal occasions or ‘that thing you RSVPd to’.

MailOnline has contacted ASOS and is awaiting comment.

Customers recently praised ASOS for using a black plus size model to show off a bright yellow bikini from its Curve collection.

Fans took to Twitter to share pictures of Vivian Eyo-Ephraim, who is based in London, modelling the two-piece on the retailer’s website.

Many hailed the choice of model as a ‘positive step’ for the brand – with one person commenting ‘real bellies matter’.

Some suggested that other retailers should follow ASOS’s lead by using a more diverse range of models.
