Police are searching for a yacht missing for almost a week

  • The boat went missing from the Hervey Bay Marina in Queensland, February 14
  • The captain, a man in his 60s and the yacht, ‘Wayfarer’, have not been seen since
  • Police hold concerns for the captains well-being as it is out of character 
  • Ocean swell as high as four metres has been recorded off the Queensland coast 

A yacht and its owner have been missing for almost a week and police hold grave concerns for the safety of the captain, a man in his 60s.

Police said it was out of character for the captain who was last seen with his 34ft manitou yacht ‘Wayfarer’ at the Hervey Bay Marina on February 14. 

The man did not leave any travel plans with friends or family and police say it is out of character for him to not do so.

Tropical Cyclone Gita has been causing havoc on the Queensland coast with swell as high as four metres recorded.  

Anyone who may have seen or heard from the man, or has seen his yacht on the water should contact Queensland Police as soon as possible on 131 444.
