Police charge woman with attempted homicide

Donna Horger (pictured), 50, was charged with attempted murder after allegedly confessing to trying to kill her mother

Police say a Pennsylvania pharmacist tried to kill her chronically ill mother by repeatedly injecting her with insulin.

Fifty-year-old Donna Horger, of Feasterville-Trevose, Bucks County, was arrested and charges with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, recklessly endangering another person and neglect of care for a dependent person.

Her 74-year-old mother, Mary, was found unresponsive at Immaculate Mary Nursing Home in Philadelphia, then moved to Abington Memorial Hospital with low-blood sugar in August.

Three days later, she was taken to the hospital unconscious with the same symptoms. Nine days after that, she had low blood sugar again.

Doctors started to become suspicious with the unusual symptoms, and checked if the condition was caused by an outside source.

When results came back, doctors were able to determined that insulin injections were the cause.

When Abington Township police were called they began interviewing medical staff at the hospital.

Employees informed the police that the only other person who had visited Mary Horger was her daughter.

When police realized that Donna Horger was not only a pharmacist but was also licensed to administer injections, they took her in for questioning.

Soon after, authorities say that Horger confessed to administering the insulin injections, allegedly telling the police that she hoped the shots would help end her mother’s pain.

Authorities noted that Mary Horger suffers from dementia and osteoporosis, leaving her virtually immobile. Despite Mary Horger’s numerous ailments, she was not a diabetic.

Defense attorney Fortunato Perry Jr says his client loves her mother and was just trying to put ‘her mother at peace and end her suffering.’

She’s free on bond and faces a Sept. 20 preliminary hearing.
