  • Her new owner couldn’t go get the rescue pup herself, so the cops are
  • Officers Danny Place and Jordan Perry are traveling from Maine to DC to lay wreaths on the graves of veterans at Arlington National Cemetery
  • They are picking up Tessa on their route and bringing her 673 miles home

A police department decided to play the role of Santa by delivering a rescue puppy to a Maine woman looking for help with her Christmas gift.

The Bangor Police Department’s Facebook page has 250,000 likes for its mere 33,000 citizens, and frequently gets requests for help. In this case, it was for a ‘Christmas miracle’.

‘Chris needs her rescue Border Collie puppy transported from Virginia to Maine. She does not have the ability to drive to Virginia right now, needs to get the puppy to Maine, and it’s her Christmas present,’ a post on the page read.

‘I have told all of you that Mainers don’t mind asking for a favor,’ Lieutenant Tim Cotton wrote on the page.

‘We borrow things, ask for rides, stop into people’s homes exactly at the dinner hour, and we usually carry jumper-cables to help start other people’s cars in the winter.

‘It’s real, and there are plenty of places left in America which are exactly like this’.

Luckily for the Waldoboro woman, two officers were traveling to Washington DC as part of the convoy for Wreaths Across America. The organization lays wreaths on the graves of veterans during the holidays.

The woman told the department she adopted a 14-week-old rescue border collie puppy in Virginia, but she couldn't bring the dog back to Maine before Christmas

The woman told the department she adopted a 14-week-old rescue border collie puppy in Virginia, but she couldn’t bring the dog back to Maine before the holiday.

Lieutenant Cotton gave the two officers a call, who were currently traveling through New Jersey.

The officers quickly agreed, saying they don’t mind picking up an extra passenger on their way back from Arlington National Cemetery. The wreaths arrive Saturday.

The puppy, named Tessa, will join Officers Danny Place and Jordan Perry on Saturday, after the men complete their task. She’ll travel 673 miles with the pair to her owner.

Tessa will arrive at her new home in time for Christmas.
