Popular medication used to treat diabetes recalled

  • A drug used to treat a common medical condition has been recalled in Australia 
  • Fears one batch of APO-Metformin XR 1000mg tablets were contaminated
  • Small piece of white plastic was found hidden completely inside one of the pills

A drug used to treat a common medical condition has been recalled across Australia after contamination fears.

A small piece of white plastic was found in a batch of APO-Metformin XR 1000 mg tablets.

The drug is used to treat type 2 diabetes in children over the age of 10 and adults, according to Mattheneus Health Care.

There are reports the plastic could have been from a cable tie which may be completely hidden in the tablets. 

The recall applies to batch number E16539 and people are advised to return affected medications to the pharmacy for replacements or refunds. 

No other batches have been affected.
