PSG trolled by Ligue 1 team Dijon after Real Madrid defeat

French side Dijon took aim at Paris Saint-Germain and their midfielder Adrien Rabiot on social media after seeing the Ligue 1 leaders succumb to a 3-1 defeat by Real Madrid in the Champions League.

PSG are now on the brink of exiting Europe’s premiere competition at the round of 16 stage after Cristiano Ronaldo’s brace and a late goal from Marcelo cancelled out Rabiot’s opening strike.

It was sweet justice for Dijon, who were on the end of an 8-0 drubbing at the hands of Unai Emery’s side last month, and they took the chance to get their own back with a cheeky tweet.

They wrote: ‘We did everything to give PSG confidence before Real Madrid… And this is how they thank us!’

The tweet included a picture of Rabiot and highlighted his words from an interview that followed their eight-goal win, in which he suggested the Ligue 1 tie was simply a formality.

He told beIN SPORTS: ‘It’s great to put eight goals past Dijon, but it is in these matches that you have to make it count.’

PSG are currently 12 points clear in the league but Unai Emery’s job hands on them winning the Champions League for the first time, which hangs by a thread following Wednesday’s result.

But, speaking after the game, Emery insisted his side still had every chance of progressing into the quarter-finals and said they deserved a lot more from the first leg than a two-goal defeat.

He told the club’s official website: ‘I’m happy with the way the team played.

‘We had the game under control, and we stayed true to our principles. Our opponents were strong, especially on the counter.

‘I think overall we dominated the game, we could have scored again to go ahead once more, especially if we had had some more favourable decisions.

‘We’re going to play the return leg at home, put them under a lot of pressure, and we’ll do everything to qualify in front of our fans.’
