Queensland driver jumps out of window from burning vehicle

A truck driver has had a lucky escape after his vehicle caught fire on a busy highway in Queensland. 

CCTV footage captured the moment the undercarriage of the truck caught fire on Monday afternoon, after the driver hit a guardrail on Mount Lindesay Highway.  

However, the driver soon discovers the door of the cabin is jammed and has just seconds to jump from the window.

Running across the road and away from the fire, the driver makes it out with seconds to spare.

The semi-trailer is soon engulfed in flames, fuelled by a load of plastic cups and 600 litres of petrol, according to 9 News.

Shocked commuters who were caught in traffic took videos and photos of the blaze, which could be seen from a fair distance. 

A crew of 25 firefighters spent over an hour to control the blaze, which shut down the highway during the afternoon rush.

‘It’s a large vehicle and it has blocked a major transport route for the afternoon,’ Ross Turner from the Queensland Fire and Emergency Service (QFES) told 9NEWS.
