Queenslander bashed and taped to his kitchen floor

A man was bashed and taped to his kitchen floor after two armed intruders broke in and ransacked his home for two hours.

Chris Tonges said he opened his door at 2am on Sunday only to be threatened with a knife by two intruders, a man and a woman, who barged their way inside.

They then allegedly taped him to the floor and the female assailant kept an eye on him while the man went through his house in Tweed Heads looking for cash.

Chris Tonges, 41, was bashed and taped to his kitchen floor after two armed intruders broke in by threatening him with a knife when he came to the door

He said they told him ‘don’t you f**king move or I’ll f**king stab you’.

‘I was kicked in the guts, stomped on the back of the head,’ he told Seven News.

‘(I had my) hands out in front of me on my stomach and feet tied up straight down the corner. I thought well there it is, I’m dead tonight.’

After two terrifying hours he heard one of the intruders steal his parents’ car and managed to untie himself and escape through the back door.

The male attacker fled by himself leaving the alleged female accomplice still inside, where she was found hiding by police.

The 43-year-old was charged with aggravated breaking and entering, inflicting bodily harm, detaining someone to gain advantage, and stealing.

The man was still at large and described as a white 35-year-old with black hair, and was wearing a grey top and black-coloured jeans.

He stole a silver-coloured Ford Kuga SUV, with specialised ‘Broncos’ number plates, from the home with NSW registration ’04LIFE’.

It was late seen about 10am in the nearby Tweed Heads CBD about 10am on Sunday.

Mr Tonges was described by his neighbours as a quiet and a ‘really lovely’ man who enjoyed fishing.

He said if his parents, who were overseas, were home someone could have been killed in the violent home invasion.

‘I’ll be having nightmares for a while,’ he said.
