Real Madrid will put doubters back ‘in place’ – Ramos

Sergio Ramos has warned that Real Madrid will bounce back from their chastening Champions League defeat by Tottenham and put critics back ‘in their place’.

Zinedine Zidane’s side were blown away at Wembley as Dele Alli and Christian Eriksen netted in a 3-1 victory for the Premier League club on Wednesday night.

The result leaves Madrid three points adrift of Tottenham in Group H. They are also eight points behind rivals Barcelona after 10 La Liga fixtures following defeat by Girona on Sunday.

But Ramos has told people not to write off the Spanish giants and called on his team-mates to remain ‘calm’ and ‘united’,

‘We understand that the fans could get disillusioned after recent results, but Real Madrid always fight back and if anyone thinks that we’re done for, we’ll put them in their place,’ the Spain defender said.

‘From my experience at Real Madrid, when you lose a couple of games, people begin to talk about a crisis. You have to stay calm and be united.

'They played very well, they're a great side, with a great stadium,' Ramos said of Tottenham

‘We’re alive in our favourite competition, the Champions League. We must stay calm, remain united and convinced that the Real Madrid we know will be back very soon.’

In extending their unbeaten run in this season’s competition, Spurs inflicted Madrid’s first Champions League group stage defeat since October 2012.

And following the Wembley clash, Ramos paid tribute to the home side’s quality and the impact their supporters had on the game.

‘The score line is a bit deceptive, not to take anything away from Tottenham,’ he said. ‘They played very well, they’re a great side, with a great stadium and fans who really make a difference.’
