Rebels bikie feud sparks violent home invasion in Bringelly, south of Sydney

A man stabbed during a violent home invasion at a rural property on Monday night allegedly pulled out a rifle and opened fire on the accused assailants as they fled the scene in a car.

The violent episode began at about 11.30pm after a 32-year-old man and 28-year-old woman – both wearing balaclavas and armed with a gun and a knife – allegedly forced their way inside the home south-west of Sydney.

Three people were inside the property at the time: 35-year-old Vince Dattilo, a 29-year-old woman and another 35-year-old man.

One of the men was stabbed twice in the stomach and once in the back while the woman was stabbed in the neck, Acting Superintendent Paul Albury said on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old woman is now in a critical-but-stable condition in hospital.

The injured 35-year-old man shot at the balaclava-clad couple as they fled the ‘terrifying’ scene in a car, police claim.

‘The two offenders … left in a Holden Colorado and were reversing out of the driveway when a 35-year-old man from the premises armed himself with a Winchester rifle and opened fire,’ Acting Supt Albury said.

‘Two of the shots that were fired towards the vehicle struck the driver’s side of the vehicle, injuring the 32-year-old man.’

He continued driving until he hit a telegraph pole on The Northern Road in Luddenham some five kilometres away, Acting Supt Albury said.

‘There was extensive blood in the vehicle, so it could have been a contributing factor. Also, obviously, the speed he was travelling at was a factor.’

The female passenger was uninjured and is being questioned at Liverpool Police Station.

The driver – allegedly a member of the Rebels bikie gang – was shot in the arm and remains in hospital under police guard.

‘The 32-year-old man, who attended the premises and … allegedly committed the home invasion, we believe has links to an outlaw motorcycle group,’ Acting Supt Albury said.

‘The 28-year-old woman who went to the premises was having a property-related dispute with occupants of the Bringelly address,’ he said.

‘So, the intention was to go there and retrieve certain property.’

‘It must have been a terrifying incident. A number of people were stabbed inside,’ Acting Supt Albury said.

‘But by the same token, the level of violence in firing a .303 Winchester rifle at a moving vehicle is an alarming escalation,’ he said.

The gunshot victim's injuries were so severe the ambulance had to be driven by a police officer while he was attended to by paramedics

Neighbour Jo Vella told The Daily Telegraph he heard loud gunfire for more than 15 seconds.

‘It’s pretty scary, you’re in bed and you don’t know whether you’re going to be the one shot or stabbed,’ Mr Vella said.

‘I was going to get up but the wife said ”it’s got nothing to do with you, stay there”.’
