Redditor does incredible pantry makeover with LED lights

For neat freaks, home decor lovers, and people who generally just like symmetry, there’s nothing more satisfying than a home makeover, no matter how small.

Redditor Troy Proffitt from Texas recently renovated his kitchen pantry, and the results are certainly impressive.

After pulling out the old shelves, installing new ones, and even adding automatic lighting, Troy restocked the whole pantry so beautifully that he’s one over hundreds of other home renovators.

Wow! The transformation is certainly impressive (slide for before and after)

Troy shared before and after photos, as well as several showing the progress of his DIY project.

He started out with a pantry filled with builder-grade wire shelves, which were filled with a messy assortment of food.

After emptying the pantry, he removed the shelves and the ’50 million’ fasteners that were embedded in the sheetrock.

He added a new coat of paint and cut the new wooden shelves himself, coating those in acrylic paint before installing them.

Finally, he added LED light tape to light up the cabinet to make everything easier to find, connecting them to the door so that they automatically turn on when the pantry is open (and off when it’s closed).

Perhaps most impressively, thanks to a little elbow grease, he only spent around $250 for the whole project.

He showed off the finished product with pictures, and also uploaded a video to demonstrate how the lights work — though he joked that he’s a bit ‘worried about being blinded in the middle of the night when I want some cereal and forget about the LEDS.’

Besides the pristine new shelves and cool light-up feature, Troy and his wife — he joked that it’s actually her pantry — also made the most of the new design by reorganizing all of their dry goods inside.

Many of the loose items are kept in baskets on the top and bottom shelves, divided by type: cereals, bars, Tupperware, disposable plates and cups.

Things like sugar, flour, and chips are kept in clear jars with neatly-written labels, and there’s a designated shelf for cans and boxes.

Spices — of which they have quite a few containers — are all stacked on smaller shelves on the inside of the door.

The new layout means that whereas before, the pantry looked stuffed to the limit, now the couple has quite a bit of extra room for more stuff, and everything appears to be much easier to find.
