Robert Irwin, 14, is the spitting image of his late father Steve as he strolls around New York City

He was only two years old when his father Steve Irwin was tragically killed by a stingray barb while filming a wildlife program.

And Robert Irwin, 14, is certainly growing up fast, having stepped out in New York on Monday looking more like the late Crocodile Hunter than ever.

Clad in a grey T-shirt and khaki shorts, Robert was spotted strolling through the city with his mother Terri, 54, sister Bindi, 20, and her boyfriend Chandler Powell, 21.

Robert, who now stands a head taller than his famous sister, completed his casual look with a pair of black lace-up sneakers and a wristwatch.

Meanwhile, bubbly Bindi wore a purple plaid shirt and a pair of skinny jeans as she and Chandler held hands.

Chandler also showed his allegiance to the conservationist cause by donning a Wildlife Warriors T-shirt and a pair of khaki shorts.

The Irwins have been spending time in the United States promoting Australia Zoo and their conservation work.

Last year, Robert told The Courier-Mail he didn’t want to follow in his father’s footsteps, and instead planned to continue his legacy in his own way.

‘I don’t want be exactly like dad, I don’t want to be dad, but I do want to continue his legacy,’ he said.

‘It’s in my blood, it’s in my DNA, and it’s in everything I do. Dad never cared about being known for himself, he cared about the message, and that’s what I’m trying to do, continue that message.’

Besides working at Australia Zoo alongside Terri and Bindi, Robert is also an award-winning photographer.
