  • A five-kilogram rock crashed through her windshield as she drove past a ute

  • Ms Korchik said she would have been killed instantly without the slight deviation

A woman has nearly been killed by a five-kilogram rock that flew through her windshield while she was driving to work.

The massive projectile came centimetres from crushing beautician Elena Korchik’s face on Friday morning after she passed a ute on Woy Woy Rd, 60kms north of Sydney.

The 59-year-old grandmother said she would have been killed instantly had the rock not slightly deviated after hitting the car’s windshield.

‘This rock hit the windscreen, hit the metal and changed the direction of the rock,’ Ms Korchik told the Daily Telegraph.

‘It knocked off my mirror and it (the mirror) hit me in the face. It happened so quickly.’

The rock grazed Ms Korchik’s shoulder before crashing into the back seat with such force, that it rebounded into the front passenger seat and damaged it.

Ms Korchik said she was showered in glass and would have suffered eye injuries had she not been wearing her spectacles.

She was taken to hospital where she was treated for shock and shoulder injuries.

Ms Korchik said she has been left shaken by the ‘very close call’ which nearly ended her life.

‘It’s left me thinking life is precious and it could be taken away by some idiot,’ she said.

The driver of the ute returned to the scene after a few minutes, telling police he was not carrying a load in his aluminium tray, according to the Daily Telegraph.
