Roma goalkeeper Alisson admits Liverpool interest makes him ‘happy’ ahead of Champions League clash

Roma goalkeeper Alisson has admitted he is flattered by interest from Liverpool ahead of their Champions League semi-final second leg at the Stadio Olimpico on Wednesday.

The Brazilian shotstopper is on a two-man shortlist to become Liverpool’s No 1 next season with Jack Butland also an option as Jurgen Klopp aims to put an end to his goalkeeper conundrum at Anfield.

Despite admitting the interest makes him ‘happy,’ Alisson insisted he is solely focused on trying to help Roma – who overturned a three-goal deficit in the previous round against Barcelona – turn things around against Liverpool, having lost the first leg 5-2.

He told Gazzetta dello Sport: ‘I don’t know what will happen [in the summer]. Obviously, the interest makes me happy. I don’t think it’s a question of needing [to move].

‘I know what I’m worth, not money wise, but as a player. I know what I bring to the team, but I only think about the present. What happens next, we leave for later.’

Alisson was powerless against Liverpool in the first leg as Klopp’s men put five past him before Roma kept their hopes of reaching the Champions League final alive by netting two late goals.

The 25-year-old insisted they can still qualify and are capable of repeating their feat against Barcelona with the help of their supporters on Wednesday.

He added: ‘We know our true strength, we know that there is the public as the twelfth player, that at home we have never suffered a goal in Europe, we beat Chelsea and Barcelona 3-0.

‘And all this gives us confidence. We have a 50% chance of going through the round.’
