Rove McManus says fans want a return of his late night talk show

He’s about to become the host of a new game show touted as Spics and Specks for film buffs.

But charismatic comedian Rove McManus, 44, has said fans still ask about his old talk show Rove Live – which ran on Channel Ten from 1999 to 2009.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph on Sunday, the TV funnyman said he’s been asked about bringing back the show ‘everyday’ by fans.

‘I get asked about it all the time’: Comedian Rove McManus has said fans still ask about his old talk show Rove Live, which ran on Channel Ten from 1999 to 2009

‘I love the fact that every day in my Twitter feed there’s some reference and people asking for it to come back,’ he said.

‘I get asked about it on the street all the time, yet for some reason network programmers aren’t interested. [But] There’s obviously an appetite for it.’

The triple Gold Logie winner, however, will have his hands full with his new quiz show, Show Me The Movie!

The show will feature comedian Joel Creasey and actress Jane Harber, who will captain teams of rival guests.

Rove told the publication that although he’s not a ‘walking IMDB page’, he does like seeing what films are on offer.

‘I have strong opinions and like most people want to find someone who’s seen it so you can sit and swap ideas, bounce around what you liked and didn’t like,’ the comedian spilled.

It appears Channel Ten is keen to continue its new tradition of giving popular comedians their own variety shows.

Last year, Peter Helliar began hosting quiz show CRAM, which has been renewed for a second season despite lukewarm reviews and lacklustre ratings.

Dave Hughes began hosting his show Hughesy: We Have A Problem on the same network in January.

Rove recently had an ill-fated stint that saw him swap television for the airwaves, hosting a 2Day FM breakfast show with former Bachelorette star, Sam Frost.

The duo failed to find their fire with viewers, and the program was axed after only a year on air.
