The Lubbock Police Department is ‘currently investigating several incidents of property damage on Broadway after the Texas Tech Men’s Basketball win over Michigan State Saturday night,’ department public information officer Tiffany Pelt said in a statement the Dailymail.com.

‘Investigators will continue to gather information, photos and videos and work with the Lubbock Fire Marshal’s Office to pursue charges against those suspects.’

Pelt explained that damage appears to have been ‘isolated to a car, a couch, about 10 Lime scooters and a few city signs.’

She explained that the police’s main objective was to disperse the crowd and that at least one person was arrested for public intoxication.

The official Twitter account of the City of Lubbock did release a statement condemning the celebrations that turned into riots.

‘After Texas Tech defeated Michigan State, hundreds of fans gathered & engaged in dangerous, & disappointing behavior including vandalizing property,’ the city said in a series of tweets. ‘We are proud, & excited, for Texas Tech; but that behavior will not be tolerated.’

‘Statement from @TexasTech: #TexasTech has the best fans in the country & we appreciate their enthusiastic support & ask they celebrate w integrity, positive energy & respect.’

Old Town Road and its remix have quickly become a staple in the city of roughly 250,000 people, with even the basketball team adopting it as their unofficial song.

After beating Michigan State 61-51 to advance to their first NCAA title game, the men’s basketball team was seen on a video dancing and shouting in celebration.

The original song is currently number 2 on iTunes all genre charts while the Billy Ray remix is dominating both the all genre and country charts at number 1.

Meanwhile, Billboard – who originally snubbed Lil Nas X by removing his song from the country music chart – currently has the original song at number 15 on their ‘Hot 100’ chart.

Following the song’s removal from the Billboard country charts, Billy Ray Cyrus asserted on Twitter: ‘It was so obvious to me after hearing the song just one time. I was thinking, what’s not country about it?

‘What’s the rudimentary element of a country and western song? Then I thought, it’s honest, humble, and has an infectious hook, and a banjo. What the hell more do ya need?’

So far there’s no official word on whether the remixed version will be eligible for inclusion in Billboard’s Hot Country Songs chart.
