An RSL club that was forced to shut off all live music as a result of one alleged formal complaint has summed up Sydney’s nightlife problem.

Narrabeen RSL posted a photo of the sign on Tuesday, which stated the club was told to cancel all outdoor music as a result of one complaint by local residents.

‘Due to a single formal residential complaint and state government regulations we are now forced to have all amplified music inside only,’ the sign read.

The sign also stated the ruling had the potential to prevent guests from sitting outside and enjoying the venue, which has operated for the last 65 years.

‘Narrabeen RSL will endeavour to fight with everything we have to get this condition overturned. We may need you help so stay tuned.

‘We hope for a return to great tunes and good vibes outside soon. Until then we are at the mercy of Nimbys and noise restrictions. You can thank your state government.’

According to the complaint lodged with Liquor and Gaming NSW, the primary issues were whether the quiet and good order of the neighborhood had been disturbed.

Some considerations that were taken into account included the order of occupancy, structural changes and changes in the activities conducted on licensed premises.

Other considerations included the club’s location in relation to local residents and the recent introduction of live music on weekdays – in addition to weekends.

The result of the complaint was that the club must impose three conditions on the liquor licence, including noise condition, noise limiter, and security patrols.

The Reddit post has since garnered plenty of mixed reactions from users, with many people taking to social media to share their views of Sydney’s dwindling nightlife.

‘R.I.P Sydney. This town officially belongs to the boomers from now until 2040,’ one person wrote.

‘They live in a ‘city’, if they can’t handle ‘city’ noise then they should retire to the country. Simple,’ another person said.

A third person added: ‘I moved here in ’96 everything leading up to it was amazing, but after it seems like it’s had a 20 year hang over.’

Despite plenty of support for the club’s live music scene, a number of Reddit users supported the decision to shut off all live music at the venue.

‘People have a right to object to loud noise in their neighbourhood,’ one person wrote.

‘Well s**t, if a business’ music is bothering someone in their own home, they should complain! And they should stop it,’ another person said.

A third person added: ‘It looks like the management is now caring about the patrons.’
