RSPCA investigate disturbing footage of emus ‘mowed down’

A graphic video showing four emus being run down by a car in Western Australia has been uploaded onto Snapchat. 

The dashcam footage shows a four-wheel-drive moving extremely fast as it veers up and down a regional dirt road.

The video was paused before impact, but the car appears to hit four emus.

The footage, has been sent to the RSPCA and media outlets, with Channel 7 saying ‘we’ve paused the video before the moment of each impact to spare you the graphic details’. 

The RSPCA chief inspector condemned the act in a statement to the news outlet. 

 ‘We are distressed to see what appears to be deliberate running down of emus,’  the  statement said.

‘This kind of cruelty to animals is appalling and unacceptable. 

‘The video has been sent to us and we will be investigating.’ 

The RSPCA has encouraged anyone with information to contact the Cruelty Line on 1300 278 3589.
