Following the tweet, Corbyn threatened Javid with legal action if the tweet was not retracted.

Labour MP Clive Lewis leapt to the defence of his leader saying ‘Are you seriously accusing Jeremy Corbyn of being a Holocaust denier?

‘Seriously I’d apologise, detract and wind your neck in. And whilst you’re at it launch an investigation into Islamophobia in your own sorry excuse for a party.’

The Home Secretary later tweeted a second message saying ‘Corbyn is not a Holocaust denier. I am happy to make that clear’ but added his comment referred to comment referred to a Twitter user ‘buying into Corbyn’s position on anti-Semitism’.

Dawn Butler, the MP for Brent Central and shadow secretary for women and equalities tweeted the Prime Minster to demand an explanation over the frontbencher’s behaviour.

‘Home Secretary Why have you posted this message?’ she said, adding ‘Theresa May, I demand an explanation on the floor of the house. One of your ministers seems to be deliberately peddling a lie. And he is the home secretary! This cannot be allowed to continue.’

It comes among infighting in both the Labour and Conservative parties as Theresa May has faced a plethora of resignations and hoped to use accusations that the Labour party are anti-semitic as political capital.

Margaret Hodge, who’s been working as a Labour MP for 24 years, last week accused her leader of anti-semitism and racism’ in the Commons.

Dame Margaret’s accusation came over fury of Labour’s NEC ruling that approved a new code on anti-semitism that was commended by the Jewish community.
