‘He was not generous … with some of the things that were on the show,’ Newman told Mike Sheahan and Grant Thomas.

‘He tended to make it more about him than more about anyone else that was on the show to the chagrin of most of us and I thought he was better than that.

‘(He was) either nervously trying too hard … like a job interview for bigger and better things.

‘He made this, in my opinion, about him. That’s it.’

The provocative host claimed he was ‘really surprised’ my his colleague’s ‘attitude’ and was puzzled at ‘what he was trying to do’.

Jones, who usually hosts the Sunday Footy Show, was stepping in for regular host Eddie McGuire as he was not available for the July 11 show.

‘Tony would probably know I had that attitude, I left straight after the show… he would know I was a bit ticked off at how he handled things,’ Newman claimed in the podcast.

The former Geelong Football Club player said he had not spoken to Jones since the incident more than a week ago, further adding he did not have other ‘problems with him’.

After the episode went to air, there were suggestions the pair had a ‘blow-up’ after Newman was denied his request to show a particular video on air.

‘He (Newman) sat there quite unhappy about the situation for the rest of the program,’ Tim Watson told SEN Breakfast.

The 72-year-old previously told the Herald Sun he was not worried about his future with Channel 9 despite his contract running out at the end of the year.
