Samantha Armytage raises eyebrows with gypsy comments

It’s the upcoming boxing showdown that’s got everybody talking.

And on Friday the Sunrise panel weighed in on Jeff Horn’s upcoming fight against British-born Irish Traveller Gary Corcoran.

But host Samantha Armytage received an awkward reaction from colleague Natalie Barr when she questioned whether he ‘lived in a caravan’ and if biting was allowed ‘in the gypsy world’.

Raised eyebrows: Samantha Armytage asks whether boxer Gary Corcoran ‘lives in a caravan’ and ‘if biting is allowed in the gypsy world’ in VERY awkward Sunrise segment

Ahead of the world welterweight title fight next Wednesday, Gary has threatened to ‘bite’ Jeff if he headbutts him during the showdown.

Discussing the war of words, Samantha questioned why Gary was known as a ‘boxing gypsy’.

‘Does he live in a caravan?’ She asked.

‘No, no, he does not live in a caravan,’ Sports presenter Mark Beretta replied, laughing.

‘Biting is not on,’ Kochie added, referencing Gary’s threat to Brisbane-based Jeff.

‘Maybe biting is on in the gypsy world … but not on in the boxing world,’ Samantha offered.

But her suggestion was met with awkward silence from her colleagues, with Natalie biting down on her pen while sporting an uncomfortable expression.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Sunrise for comment.

In Australia for his first international fight, Gary was raised in London on an Irish Traveller site.

‘Some gypsies are different than other gypsies,’ he told Boxing Insider.

‘We stayed in one place even though we’re called Travellers. It was a trailer park. All family, cousins—all Travellers, all gypsies.’
