Santa cools off with a fan in Sydney

Santa has been spotted sweating through a Sydney heatwave using a fan to cool down as temperatures fired above 30C.

Taking a break from his busy schedule at the North Pole, Mr Claus was at Luna Park on Wednesday to greet families and their children.

But it seems the stress of the holiday season coupled with Australia’s hottest week in 54 years sent Santa into a meltdown.

He was spotted with a red handheld water fan to cool himself down in the hot summer sunshine.

Even with his big bushy beard and donning his red suit – more suitable for the icy temperatures in the North Pole – Santa manage to keep his cool as he posed for photos.

The heat was also causing trouble for residents with thousands of homes losing power (and air-conditioning!) across Sydney.

Emergency crews spent the afternoon responding to calls.

‘Emergency crews are working to restore power to 5,000 customers in Sydney’s south-east & inner west after two separate outages this afternoon,’ Ausgrid tweeted on Wednesday.

But there will be no respite with the mercury tipped to peak at 35C in Sydney on Thursday.
