Savvy mum turns $12 Kmart snood into stylish stool cover – as she reveals simple five-step method

Boho chic for a fraction of the price! Savvy mum turns $12 Kmart snood into stylish stool cover – as she reveals her simple five-step method

  • A creative mum has revealed the steps she took to transform a Kmart stool
  • She explained how she used a cheap wool snood and twine, also from Kmart
  • The end result is a stunning home decor item that blends with her boho interior

A savvy Australian mum has turned a $12 snood from Kmart into a stylish stool cover, using the snood and a $16 product from the discount store.

Michelle Rhodes from Brisbane revealed she originally bought the grey crochet stool from Kmart, but when she got it home she realised it didn’t work with her interiors.

Being handy with a needle and thread, Ms Rhodes said she simply decided to ‘hack’ the existing stool using a snood (a circular scarf) in a natural hue – also from Kmart.

‘Now I have a small natural-looking stool that blends in with my decor,’ the delighted mother wrote alongside snaps of her new boho-inspired item.

So how did she hack the snood to cover her stool?

To begin with, Ms Rhodes cut out a section of the snood to cover the top of the stool and hand-stitched this in place using a large wool needle and twine.

Next, the remaining portion of the scarf was measured and then folded around the stool and also stitched into place.

As well as using the stool, priced at $16, and the snood, priced at $12, Ms Rhodes also used a wool needle and twine, which she bought from the craft outlet Linwood.

How can you use a snood to cover a stool?

* Step one: Use the top of the stool as a guide to how much needs to be cut from the snood.

* Step two: Using a wool needle and twine hand-stitch this in place.

* Step three: Measure the length of what you will need to cover the remainder of the stool and cut the snood to fit.

* Step four: Wrap this around the stool and hand-stitch to close.

* Step five: Also stitch this portion of the snood around the top and bottom sections of the stool to hold in place.

Results of the mum’s handiwork have been praised by thousands who saw photos of her hack on a popular Kmart-themed Facebook group.

‘This is amazing! I have the stool and wasn’t in love with the grey. You have totally just blown my mind to the possibilities… Thank you,’ wrote one person.

‘Oh my gosh, this is adorable – very clever indeed. Thanks for sharing I love it,’ said another.

Although there were many who said they were keen to try the hack, the mum also had a flood of requests from those asking if she would consider taking orders.

‘Can I pay you to make me one? This is so cool,’ said one.

‘When can I pop my order in? I love this,’ said another.

In response to the many requests, Ms Rhodes said further down in the post, ‘That’s it. I think I need to go into business!’.
