Two historic hut circles are situated to the north west of Ballacher Estate. They are eight metres apart and are estimated to be between 1,500 and 4,000 years old.

A quote from the ancient monuments website said: ‘The monument is of national importance because it represents a well-preserved example of housing and farming related to the occupation of the Highlands over the last four millennia.

‘It has the rare potential to inform future research into medieval settlement and how life and land-use changed and developed into the post-medieval period.’

Diane Fleming, the agent handling the sale for Strutt & Parker, said: ‘Ballachar is in a fantastic and peaceful setting, while at the same time easily accessible from Inverness.

‘Its elevated position offers stunning views amongst a truly wonderful natural environment. Both properties are delightfully welcoming and, combined, make a glorious rural retreat. It would suit those looking for a permanent home with an idyllic rural lifestyle or others looking for a Highland holiday home to escape their busy lives.’

Tom Amies, who along with his four siblings owns Ballachar, said: ‘It is a magical setting.’

‘The silence is extraordinary and it is a very special spot. This place makes you slow down. Different rules apply. As the roads improve, Inverness has got closer and closer but the feeling of seclusion has never changed.

‘The natural story is fascinating as well. On the estate there are the remains of a village from the Middle Ages and next to it hut circles that may be as much as 4,000 years old.

‘These are scheduled monuments, and part of Scotland’s ancient history. I stand there and think of the generations that have gone before us. We are not the first people to love this extraordinary part of Scotland and to have chosen it as our home for a time. We won’t be the last.’
