Search for missing Irish backpacker Craig Lambe in Sydney

A large scale search is underway for a 25-year-old Irish backpacker, who hasn’t been seen since leaving his Sydney apartment on Monday.

Craig Lambe left his Kingsford address, in the eastern suburbs, about 12.30pm after telling his traveling friend he was going to collect money from Western Union. 

His distraught family have pleaded for public assistance in locating Mr Lambe, with his brother, James, revealing details surrounding his disappearance Wednesday morning.

‘Craig was last seen leaving an apartment he was residing in on Monday at approx 12:30pm AEDT (with an address of 33 Middle Street, Kingsford, New South Wales, Sydney),’ a statement shared on Facebook read. 

His brother confirmed the family hadn’t sent any money via a Western Union account, and ‘the reasons for him leaving or his intended destination are unclear.’ 

‘We believe Craig was struggling to access funds mainly due to losing his bank card but had not highlighted major difficulties with family or friends.’

The Irishman left the home with no phone or money, but took a small black bag containing his passport, a black fleece jumper, thongs and a towel.

‘Craig’s friend believed he gained access to money as suggested and went shopping as they had just moved into the apartment.’

‘When Craig did not return to the apartment overnight his friend immediately contacted his brother (approx 7am on Tuesday AEDT). He was instructed to contact the police soon after which he did so immediately.

‘Since Craig’s disappearance there has been a huge online appeal which we appreciate immensely but as of now there have been no confirmed sightings of Craig and he has made no contact.’

‘Due to the obvious lack of information about his whereabouts and the circumstances in which Craig left his residence on Monday the 11th we are deeply concerned.’ 

‘We urge anyone to come forward with information no matter how small they believe it to be and thank everyone who has supported thus far.

‘We just want to know our Brother/Son/Nephew/Cousin/Grandson & Friend is safe.’ 

Police also released an appeal for public assistance, describing the Irish national as being of Caucasian appearance, about 180cm tall, with a medium build and brown hair.

‘Police and family hold concerns for his welfare due to this behaviour being out of character,’ a statement read. 

‘If anyone has information regarding the whereabouts of Mr Lambe, please contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.’ 

Mr Lambe’s mother, who lives in Dublin, Ireland, has shared several emotional pleas for help to her Facebook page.
