Seattle officer killed by another cop during police chase

A Seattle police officer has been killed in the line of duty after he was hit by another cop while trying to deploy spike stripes to stop a fleeing suspect.

Diego Moreno was attempting to deploy the spikes at an intersection early Sunday morning to flatten the suspect’s tires when he was hit by a police vehicle.

The officer who hit Moreno then crashed into three other cars that were parked at a nearby intersection and was seriously injured in the collision.

He was taken to a Seattle hospital and was in critical condition on Sunday morning.

Kent Police Department officers began chasing the red pickup truck after witnesses said it was involved in a 2am shooting in a parking lot.

The officers followed the truck onto State Route 516 when it pulled a U-turn and headed for the pursuing officers.

That’s when Moreno reportedly exited his police vehicle and attempted to deploy the spike strikes before he was struck and killed.

‘Make no question about this, were it not for the actions of this suspect or suspects, this officer would be alive today,’ Captain Rod Mead said at a news conference following Moreno’s death.

‘It’s directly because of the suspect or suspect’s actions that led to the officer’s death.’

Moreno, who is originally from Venezuela, was a decorated eight-year veteran of the Kent Police Department.

He reportedly leaves behind a wife and two children.
