A sheriff’s deputy in North Carolina is out of surgery after being shot and wounded during a traffic stop.
The Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release the shooting happened around 11:30pm Sunday near Lenoir.
The deputy was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment.
The sheriff’s office said Monday the deputy was in stable condition following surgery.
The officer had been shot just below his bullet-proof vest.

The deputy was flown to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte for treatment
His name has not been released. He has been with the department just over a year.
The sheriff’s department said the suspect left the traffic stop in a blue Toyota sedan with license plate number AFJ-5570.
The North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and other law enforcement agencies are trying to find the suspect.
Investigators have not released a motive for the shooting.
Anyone with further information on the suspect has been asked to contact Crimestoppers. A $1,000 has been offered for information leading to an arrest.
